Field Trips for BCI Members
Join us for a chance to visit cotton farms, ginners, and other actors at the source of cotton production. Six locations around the world will offer different agendas and registration options. In most cases, attendees will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation at a central location where the field trip will begin. Ground transportation and other logistics will be provided by the BCI field trip organiser.

BCI has partnered with Textile Exchange as an official TExursion at the conclusion of the 2017 Textile Sustainability Conference in Washington D.C. on 10 – 11 October. Any BCI members are still welcome to attend this BCI Field Trip.
Attendees for this BCI field trip will be picked up at 07:00 the Embassy Suites Brier Creek Hotel in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina for a bus ride to nearby farms and a gin tour, returning to the RDU Airport by 16:00.
BCI has reserved a block of rooms at the Embassy Suites Brier Creek Hotel. Attendees can get a discount on room bookings until 22 September, accessible here. Travel to the hotel must be arranged by attendees.

Southern California co-hosted by Sustainable Cotton Project (SCP) and the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)
Join us on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 for a one-day Cotton Farm Tour through the San Joaquin Valley to gain a behind-the-scenes look at the many sides of cotton production. You’ll meet the farmers, see cotton being harvested and learn about Cleaner Cotton™.
Guests are responsible for their own travel and hotel arrangements. Rooms are reserved at the Best Western Apricot Inn (46290 West Panoche Road, Firebaugh, CA) under the name “Sustainable Cotton Project — Cotton Farm Tour.” The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast for guests. Space in the hotel is limited, please call (559) 659-1444 to reserve your room as soon as possible.
The tour begins promptly at 8:30 AM at the Best Western Apricot Inn. Please gather in or just outside the lobby. The tour ends around 4:30-5:00 PM.

This field trip will take place the day after the Pakistan Regional Members Meeting. Attendees will meet at 7:30 AM at the BCI office in Lahore, returning at 17:00 PM. BCI will arrange the logistics for the field trip, traveling to Chichawatni (200km from Lahore) with a full day of visiting cotton fields and a cotton gin.

We are offering a comprehensive tour to give you a chance to visit cotton farms, ginners, and other actors at the source of BCI cotton production. Participants will receive the most thorough explanation of the BCI standard and the cotton farming system in India. You’ll also get to learn about how BCI cotton is grown, harvested, and ginned, and you’ll have an opportunity to see cotton at the farm level.

China Field Trip – Wei County, Hebei Province, China

Weixian, an important and major cotton growing county, is located in the southeast of Hebei province. The planting area for cotton in this region is about 40,000 ha, which accounts for 50% of China’s total cotton cultivation. CottonConnect is the implementing partner for this BCI project and they have been working on a sustainable cotton project (REEL cotton) in Weixian since 2013. This was converted to a BCI project in May, 2015. Currently, they are working with 3,000 smallholder farmers in 30 villages. Read the detailed agenda and background information.
Turkey Field Trip – Izmir to Sake Region, Turkey

This field trip met in Izmir, Turkey, at 8:30am at IPUD’s Offices. BCI arranged the logistics for this visit with guests traveling to the Söke Region (150 km from Izmir) with a full day of visiting cotton fields, ginning and spinning facilities.
