Cotton is the most widely used natural fibre in the world, and over a fifth of the world’s cotton is licensed BCI Cotton.

At the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), our Chain of Custody Standard offers options to source BCI Cotton from farm to retail. This helps textile and apparel organisations to meet various more sustainable sourcing needs. We make it easy to track Better Cotton orders on our BCI Platform (BCP), and our members can communicate about their commitment to BCI by making claims about their sourcing.

Depending on their sourcing goals, retailers, brands, suppliers and manufacturers can choose between Mass Balance and Physical Chain of Custody (CoC) models based on which option is more appropriate for them. To find out more about our chain of custody models, check out this video:
