At Better Cotton, we believe that multistakeholder involvement is key to achieving effective multilateralism in addressing the interconnected challenges of cotton farming. In November 2024, Better Cotton is organising its third multistakeholder event in Tashkent, exploring the most salient challenges in sustainable cotton production in Uzbekistan and offering balanced solutions on how to effectively address them.

The event will provide a unique platform for open and interactive dialogue between policymakers, businesses, NGOs, academia, international institutions, and cotton experts. It will bring forward a diversity of voices around cross-cutting issues in cotton communities, to provide inputs for developing the future of the Better Cotton programme in Uzbekistan.

Discussions will be focused on four key areas:

  1. Key takeaways from Better Cotton's programme in Uzbekistan from 2023/24
  2. Regenerative agriculture
  3. Decent work in cotton communities
  4. Critical barriers to change in cotton production identified for their impact on the sustainability of the cotton sector

Each section will be introduced by a keynote speaker specially selected for their expertise on the topics in focus. The discussion will be supported by a Q&A session with the key programme stakeholders in a dedicated area.

Breakout groups will present group discussions on critical challenges in the environmental, social & economic sustainability of cotton production, and ways to address these challenges.

The event is organised with the support of GIZ, in the framework of the “Sustainability and Value Added in the Cotton Economy” project.
