Better Cotton has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with its programme partner in Tajikistan, Sarob, to strengthen the implementation of the national Better Cotton Programme.
Both organisations, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, have committed to jointly develop mechanisms tailored to the country’s context that can unlock greater productivity and generate deeper sustainability impacts.
The Better Cotton Programme in Tajikistan continues to promote sustainable cotton production which is testament to the great work of Sarob. This agreement will help strengthen our collaboration and drive further progress across the country.
As Better Cotton’s Programme Partner in Tajikistan, Sarob is responsible for the delivery of the national programme, providing training and support to cotton farmers that enables them to adopt more sustainable agricultural practices.
As per the terms of the MoU, Better Cotton will work alongside Sarob to identify and establish better market linkages for Better Cotton produced in Tajikistan, explore collaborative initiatives for fundraising, and drive advocacy efforts relevant to Tajikistan’s cotton sector.
In parallel, the Ministry of Agriculture will support the mission through the promotion of sustainable cotton and has founded a working group to engage native companies and organisations.
Notes to Editors
In the 2022/23 cotton season, 1,162 Better Cotton licensed farmers in Tajikistan produced more than 14,700 metric tonnes of Better Cotton.
