Welcome to the Better Cotton Platform

We are pleased that your company would like to participate in the Better Cotton Chain of Custody by sourcing and supplying cotton-containing products as Better Cotton. More than 85 well-known retailers and brands are BCI Members. The majority are already sourcing cotton-containing products as Better Cotton to meet their public targets for more sustainable cotton, so your investment in a Better Cotton Platform (formerly the Better Cotton Tracer) account is worthwhile!

This offer allows suppliers and manufacturers not involved in trading raw cotton and/or yarn spinning to access the Better Cotton Platform (BCP). It gives your company a way to participate electronically in the Better Cotton Chain of Custody by allowing you to generate and manage obligatory documentation for verifying sourcing of cotton-containing products as Better Cotton.

BCP access gives you the opportunity to source and sell cotton-containing products as Better Cotton and helps you build your clientele for Better Cotton.

You may join BCI as a member at any time. We welcome your support in our efforts to drive the cotton sector toward a more sustainable future. With membership, you have full access to our member benefits. Find out more here or contact us. Be part of something better.

What is the Better Cotton Platform?

The Better Cotton Platform (BCP) belongs to the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and is used as a documentation and verification tool by BCI and BCI stakeholders involved in sourcing cotton as Better Cotton. The Better Cotton Chain of Custody Guidelines outline what types of entities are obligated to use the BCP. Access allows you to participate electronically in the Better Cotton Chain of Custody and facilitates:

  • Recording information about cotton-containing orders sourced as Better Cotton and managing the required documentation; and
  • Recording information about cotton-containing sales to customers as Better Cotton.

Today, use of the BCP is only compulsory for traders, spinners, retailers, and brands. However, BCI will make it compulsory in 2018 for all value chain actors sourcing cotton-containing products as Better Cotton.

This short video demonstrates how our system works.

Who uses the Better Cotton Platform?

All cotton supply chain actors – ginners, traders, spinners, fabric mills, garment manufacturers and retailers – can have access to the BCP. Since its inauguration, in conjunction with the Better Cotton Chain of Custody Guidelines in 2013, cotton traders, spinners, and retailers and brands must use it. In 2018, all actors in the supply chain wishing to source or fulfil orders as Better Cotton will be obliged to use the BCP. Please note that there are eligibility criteria to be able to access the BCP.

What are the eligibility criteria for accessing the Better Cotton Platform?

To be eligible for BCP access:

  • You must be a registered legal entity.
  • You must not be listed on any internationally recognised default list, nor be affiliated with a company on a default list. Examples of such lists are ICA, WCEACICCA or the ICA List of Unfulfilled Awards: Part 2.
  • You must complete an online training course provided by BCI after submitting your application.

For full details please read carefully the Terms and Conditions.

How much does access to the Better Cotton Platform cost?

One account for an established business or group of affiliated companies costs €750 for a period of 12 months. You will be asked automatically to renew your access to the BCP at the end of each 12-month period. Timely payment will ensure uninterrupted access to the system.

Is there any training involved?

Yes. After you complete and purchase your online registration, you will be invited to join our online training platform.

You must successfully complete this online training before you will be given access to the BCP. The training explains how the BCP works and how to use it.

The training platform offers courses for diverse types of supply chain actors. You will be asked to choose the one relevant to the type of business you conduct. For example, if you buy fabric and sell garments, you must complete the training tailored for this type of business activity.

What happens if I do not renew my Better Cotton Platform access after one year?

If you do not renew, access to your account will be blocked and all BCCUs will be forfeited.

Is our payment safe?

We use the Stripe payment platform to securely process online payments. Your data is always transmitted via SSL encryption and BCI does not hold any credit card data relating to your payment. All other data submitted is managed according to the BCI Data Protection Policy.
