Standard Revision

BCI Production Principles and Criteria lay out the global definition of Better Cotton. By adhering to six principles, BCI Farmers produce cotton in a way that is measurably better for the environment and farming communities.

The six principles and associated criteria were first published in 2010. In 2015, BCI engaged in a formal standard revision process.  After two rounds of global public consultations (in February 2016 and January 2017), numerous outreach activities, and several reviews by the BCI Standard Review Committee, a final draft is now being developed.

The BCI Council is currently reviewing the final draft in a staggered manner and will progressively agree on major revision topics during successive calls and meetings until final agreement is reached in November 2017.
