Standard Revision

BCI Principles and Criteria lay out the global definition of Better Cotton. By adhering to seven principles, BCI Farmers produce cotton in a way that is measurably better for the environment and farming communities.

The original six production principles and associated criteria were first published in 2010.

In 2015, BCI engaged in a formal standard revision process. After two rounds of global public consultations (Dec 2015 – Feb 2016 and Jan – Feb 2017), numerous outreach activities, and several reviews by the BCI Standard Review Committee, a draft was submitted to the BCI Council in May 2017.

After a six-month review period, the BCI Council approved the revised version of the BCI Standard in November 2017 with the aim of officially launching it on 1 March 2018
