BCI Production Principles and Criteria lay out the global definition of Better Cotton. By adhering to six principles, Better Cotton farmers produce cotton in a way that is measurably better for the environment and farming communities.
The six principles and associated criteria were first published in 2010, after more than 16 months of stakeholder consultation. Since then, minor amendments and structural changes have been made, including changes to the related guidance document (PPC explained) and the addition of three normative performance scales, introduced with the new Assurance Program in 2013.
The second public consultation on the BCI standards is now open. All stakeholders are invited to provide their comments on the standard draft before 29 January, 2017.
BCI Stakeholders are kindly invited to participate in the second round of the public consultation and to provide their comments on the proposed changes. To do so, you have the choice between two options:
- Submit your comments through the online survey before 29 January 2017. Please consider this option first if you have an internet connection.
- Download the Draft and the Annexes. Provide your comments and return to Gregory Jean by email before 20 January 2017.
The consultation is carried out in English. There is also a condensed version available in French and Mandarin. We strongly recommend you consult the guidelines detailing how to efficiently provide your input. Click here to view the guidelines.
The second consultation is an opportunity for stakeholders, as well as all interested and affected parties, to provide their comments and weigh in on the BCI Principles and Criteria. More detailed information can be accessed here.
